Last month, we discussed the role of
InVision’s Safety Committee, and how this group of team members works to ensure the health and safety of both the people we support and our staff. This month, we would like to take the opportunity to dive into the role of InVision’s compliance and quality management team!
The work we do at InVision Human Services, as a non-profit organization that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, requires the highest level of care to maintain compliance for everyone involved with our organization. Regulations set by the
Office of Developmental Programs (ODP), the Department of Labor, and internally set goals and standards play a huge role in our day-to-day operation.
Various departments and groups across InVision, such as our
Learning and Development department, our Safety Committee, and our team of compliance and quality management professionals all have a part to play in our organizational success. While Learning and Development provides educational opportunities and
required monthly trainings to all staff at InVision, and our Safety Committee addresses health and safety concerns, our compliance team is dedicated to investigating allegations that violate regulations established to protect the people we support.
Reported allegations of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and violations of the rights of the people we serve can be documented anonymously through our reporting system—available to all InVision staff at any time via the
employee resources page on our website.
As InVision team members of all departments are mandatory reporters by law, it is important to note that this platform does not replace mandatory reporting guidelines.
The compliance hotline is for staff to report on the behavior of other staff that they may not feel comfortable taking to their direct supervisors—including but not limited to fraud, waste, abuse of government funding, and HIPAA violations. Every report that comes through this system is thoroughly investigated and resolved by InVision’s compliance team.
Compliance Team Spotlight: Melissa Perkins
In February of 2024, InVision welcomed a new Compliance Manager to our team of compliance and quality management professionals—Melissa Perkins. Since her start with InVision, Melissa has worked to oversee a team of five compliance specialists to ensure our team members follow all regulations set in place to ensure the people we support are safe, healthy, and their rights are protected. In addition to investigating reports on violations of these regulations, the compliance team is also tasked with reviewing physical sites, health records, and financial records of the people we support.
Over the past few months, Melissa has led InVision’s compliance team in assisting with developing Regulatory Compliance Guides as our western region prepared for licensure. Under the upcoming implementation of ODP’s updated guidelines,
Performance Based Contracting, the compliance team will work diligently to help us reach
our goal of achieving the Clinically Enhanced Residential Providers status.
“My favorite part of working at InVision is having such a great team that makes my job easier,” Melissa shared. “I have enjoyed getting to know some of the people we support and find that it’s helpful when you can put a face to a name. Their resiliency inspires me to be a part of a team that helps them live their best lives.”
Melissa brings expertise to her role as Compliance Manager at InVision with a master’s degree in both counseling and public policy management. Her professional experience prior to InVision includes providing LGBTQ+ training to youth serving organizations across the state, counseling, outpatient care, and facilitating batterers intervention prevention groups.
As a part of the compliance team, Melissa’s overall goal is to protect the rights of the people we support. Personally, Melissa’s professional goal is to have a positive impact on the people she works with.
Outside of the office, Melissa shares her life with her wife, Liz. Together, Melissa and Liz are pet parents to a beagle named Santa Fe, and three cats named Vincent, Thelma, and Louise.
Thank you, Melissa! InVision is grateful to have you, and we appreciate the essential work you and your team do for the people we support and our organization.
As a reminder to InVision staff, please ensure you are continuing to meet compliance guidelines. All compliance breaches must be reported to leadership or submitted through the hotline to ensure our continued success in the industry. Thank you for helping us maintain the standards of excellence we have in place for our organization.
