Throughout my time with InVision, I have learned many things – both personally and professionally – that I often take home each night to reflect on. Many of the lessons I’ve learned during my tenure with InVision are valuable both at the office, and outside of it. Our Guiding Principle, “
We Celebrate Success,” is one of them.
Let’s face it – celebrating the success of others is not always easy. Whether we are having a bad day, dealing with personal struggles, facing feelings of self-doubt, jealously, or comparison, there are many factors that play into our ability to respond positively to the success of others.
Psychology Today states that “our brains are built to remember negatives more than positives,” and “remembering the positives takes extra effort – but it’s the positives that build self-esteem.”
However, it is important to remember that success is not a linear path; it is not a race to be won, nor a label to carry. The definition of success is unique to everyone and deserves to be celebrated as such.

When surrounded with like-minded people at an organization that openly accepts everyone for who they are and where they are in life – while also challenging us to adopt principles that can be implemented into our daily lives – celebrating the success of others becomes second nature.
This is my experience working at
InVision Human Services. As a part of the Communications and Outreach team at InVision, I have the pleasure of working on a wide range of campaigns and projects centered around celebrating success. Some of these projects include:
- The InVisionary – Where not only do I learn about and communicate the ongoings within our organization, but I also get to interview people supported by InVision and share their success stories as they discover what is meaningful to them!
- Team Member Spotlights – A monthly email sent out to all staff, highlighting InVision team members for their professional and personal milestones through the words of their colleagues.
- Leadership Awards – An annual occurrence of awards appointed by our leadership team designed to recognize team members across InVision for going above and beyond in their job duties, and who lead with excellence.
- DSP Recognition Week – A week dedicated to expressing gratitude and celebrating our direct support staff for their hard work, dedication, and valiant efforts in providing support to the people we support at InVision.
- Walk to Hawaii – Most recently, the Move Your Way Wellness Program “Walk to Hawaii” initiative; designed to encourage healthy habits, while celebrating our organizational success along the way.

Through these initiatives, and many others, I have the irreplaceable opportunity to work with team members from across the organization – as well as meet and build relationships with the people we support, and my colleagues alike.
It is within my daily tasks, the stories I tell, and the relationships I’ve built here at InVision that I have found ease in choosing to celebrate the success of others – both at work, and within my personal life and relationships – which to me, is a success in itself.
Reflecting on the work I do, celebrating success is something I knowingly or unknowingly participate in nearly every day, and I know the same can be said among many of my colleagues. Celebrating success is a defining characteristic at InVision and our personnel; it is a huge part of who we are, what we stand for, and how we approach our collective goals.

I also often find myself scrolling through the
Stories page on our website as a reminder of
why we celebrate success: providing programs and supports to those we serve, and
their success as they have the opportunity to pursue a life that is meaningful to them.
To all my colleagues, and the people we support, who make celebrating success one of my favorite things to do – thank you, for simply being you!
